Functional yoga is a style of yoga designed to put people before postures. It Honors the differences in people from ability level to Complicity of practice. It also honors the amount to tension in ones body to the shape of the body. Essentially, functional yoga is about adapting the posture to the person. When we practice I want to encourage us to ask ourselves continuously:
What’s the function of the pose?
Why am I doing it anyway?
What are the target areas in the body ?
What am I trying to strengthen or stretch ? When we explore our practice we become more aware of why we are doing what we are doing. How the shape, our awareness and Breath is benefiting our body. This time spent in the poses become antidotes for our daily activities and lives.
